FIIAPP reiterates its efforts in supporting Nigeria Immigration Service to tackle SOM

On 2nd June 2023, the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Team embarked on a significant visit, paying their respects to the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (CGIS), Caroline Wuraola Adepoju, at the service’s headquarters in Abuja.

Welcoming the ATIPSOM Team, CGIS Caroline Wuraola Adepoju took a moment to commend the partnership between FIIAPP (International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies) and the European Union in Nigeria. She acknowledged their invaluable support in countering the grave issue of smuggling of migrants, which poses a serious threat to national security and human rights.

The CGIS expressed her unwavering commitment to collaborating closely with FIIAPP in intensifying public awareness campaigns about the dangers associated with the smuggling of migrants. Recognizing the need for proactive measures, she emphasized the importance of reaching out to communities across Nigeria and empowering them with knowledge to combat this illicit practice effectively.

Mr. Federico, the team leader of FIIAPP, reiterated the organization’s resolute dedication to supporting the Nigeria Immigration Service in their efforts to raise awareness and prevent the smuggling of migrants. He emphasized the significance of community sensitization programs, highlighting the pivotal role they play in fostering a culture of vigilance and collective action against this form of exploitation.

This visit serves as a testament to the collaborative efforts between FIIAPP(through the A-TIPSOM Project) and the Nigeria Immigration Service in their united stance against human trafficking and the smuggling of migrants. By joining forces, they aim to create a safer and more secure environment for vulnerable individuals while promoting a society that rejects these heinous crimes.
