The case of trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants (TIPSOM) has become paramount locally and globally requiring collaboration with relevant agencies to aggressively tackle the menace.
The Action Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in Nigeria (A-TIPSOM Project) has been instrumental in this area.
Through this project which is funded by the European Union, on 18th August to 19th August 2022, the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Administration and Public Policies (FIIAPP) organized a two-day meeting at Keffi Nasarawa State, on the capacity building on ‘The Support for the Creation of a Joint Intelligence/Investigation Team’ whose mandate will be to investigate and gather intelligence on TIPSOM for onward prosecution.
Participants at this meeting were drawn from Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) and Nigeria Police Force (NPF).
The objective is to inaugurate the National Joint Intelligence/Investigation Committee comprising of NIS, NAPTIP and NPF as a means of combating TIPSOM. The committee comprised of five (5) members each from NIS, NAPTIP, and NPF.
The committee shall be guided by the Nigerian Constitution, Immigration Act, relevant sections of the NAPTIP Act, relevant section of NPF Act and Administration of Criminal Justice Acts.
