A-TIPSOM VOICE RADIO PROGRAM

Trafficking in Person and Smuggling of Migrants (TIP & SOM) are more than technical problem that can be solved by trained professionals, but also a problem which citizens has to be engaged in order to effectively tackle it. The media have a large role to play in mobilizing citizens to help prevent and combat TIP & SOM. Owing to their reach and their ability to mould public opinion, they are a powerful tool of social change.

Radio is one of the major media platforms that has a wider reach; It reaches the rich and poor alike. Educated, Uneducated, Young, Old, every tribe, every region, each gender and race. Hence, it can be used to educate and sensitize citizens on dangers of human trafficking (as well as irregular migration) and their roles in preventing it.

As part of the Prevention Strategy to tackle human trafficking, The Action Against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants in Nigeria (A-TIPSOM),a project funded by European Union and implemented by FIIAPP, has initiated weekly radio program, known as A-TIPSOM Voice. This radio programme will hold every Saturday from 7.00pm to 7.30pm (Nigerian Time) at Wazobia FM 99.5 Abuja. A-TIPSOM Voice will kick-off on Saturday, 30th May, 2020.

The weekly radio program will feature seasoned experts from the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Network of CSOs against Child Trafficking, Abuse & Labour (NACTAL), and other relevant organizations as the project team deem fit.

The Radio programme is aimed at sensitizing citizens about human trafficking and smuggling of migrants and the work A-TIPSOM is doing with different government agencies to tackle the scourge.
